Problem:
In Castle Pines, a golf-centered community of about 2,000
near Castle Rock, Colorado, houses may be designed with
many large windows so residents can enjoy the spectacular
views of the golf course. But along with fabulous views
comes the need for privacy, security, and protection from
sun damage to furnishings.

Solution: Homeowners
in Castle Pines, who usually discover these needs after
moving into their new home, frequently call Cool Shade Unlimited
Window
Tinting of Castle Rock, Colorado, in search of help. As
an authorized 3M Scotchtint window film dealer, Cool Shade
Unlimited has installed window tinting film on many homes
in the community.
On the home pictured here, it was recommended to cover more
than 600 square feet of glass with a combination of RE35NEARL
and RE20NEARL Scotchtint window tinting films. To block
the heat and UV rays to the windows on the back of the house,
we applied RE35NEARL. We used RE20NEARL to add protection
from UV rays and increase privacy to the windows on the
front of the house.
In addition to needing privacy and protection for their
furnishings, the homeowners were concerned about out-of-control
golf balls hitting and shattering the windows. Both of the
3M Scotchtint window films that were applied will give them
added security because they bond tightly to glass and help
hold shattered glass in place.
This can reduce the dangers to the people inside the home
if a window were to break.
Results:
The homeowners say they are
pleased with the prospects of year-round protection for
their furnishings, lower energy costs, and the added privacy

Problem:
A 13-story office in Vancouver,
British Columbia, features floor-to-ceiling windows on its
entire southern face. And while those windows are an aesthetic
asset, until recently, they were a liability to the comfort
of the occupants in the building once the sun rose over
the horizon.

According to the building's property
manager, the office complex was originally constructed with
windows that offered only minimal solar protection. So once
the sun's rays reached the windows in the morning, the temperature
would rise quickly. In addition, there were 15 separate
zones on a floor, each governed by a thermostat that would
automatically go up or down, depending on the conditions.
In response to the heat of the sun, the thermostats closest
to the windows would activate the air conditioning---not
enough to cool the overheated areas, but more than enough
to make room temperatures in areas farther away from the
windows uncomfortably cold.
Solution:
An authorized 3M Scotchtint window tinting film dealer
was called in to resolve the problem. The dealer said, "You
could stand by the window and just feel the heat. I knew
we could greatly improve the situation if we could reduce
the effects of the sun on the envelope of the building."
It was recommended that LE35AMARL Scotchtint Plus All Season
window tinting film be used to reduce the solar warming
in the building and enhance the comfort level of tenents.
This low emissivity window film reduces solar heat transmission
by as much as 70%, depending on the type of window. The
window tinting film will also reduce heat loss in the color
months by as much as 30%.
Results: "I'm
not in business just to sell products," said the dealer.
"I'm in business to offer clients the right solution
for their specific problems." Since the installation
in 1995, the tenants, especially those who are close to
the windows, report greater comfort. In addition, the building's
property manager said she estimates that heating and cooling
costs for the office complex have dropped by 22% since the
installation of 3M Scotchtint window tinting film. And while
cosmetics were not the primary concern, she agreed that
the window tinting film has enhanced the appearance of the
building too. A year after installing 3M Scotchtint window
tinting film on the building's 13 floors, we were invited
back to install 3M Scotchtint window tinting film on the
foyer windows.
